The bakery and dairy bar is close to signing a lease for the former Firehook Bakery on Connecticut Ave NW, just a block from the Cleveland Park Metro.
The 1,200-square-foot space would be the retail chain’s fourth physical location in the D.C. region, with others in Brookland, where it also operates a commercial kitchen, as well as in Eastern Market and at 2000 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, where the Western Market food hall opened earlier this year. Captain Cookie also has a store in Raleigh, North Carolina, and maintains a fleet of food trucks for catering and private events.
At Western Market, Captain Cookie is already expanding its presence to be roughly triple its current size. That’s slated to open in the spring, along with the Cleveland Park location, though the latter’s timing depends on factors such as regulatory approvals.
“We have a lot of customers based in that neighborhood, and we feel very confident about the success of that space,” Juliann Francis, co-founder along with husband Kirk stated. “Now that we have hit our stride, we’re still committed to expanding in the area. We believe there’s demand for a bakery like Captain Cookie in the neighborhood.”
With that, the business is also scouting out other potential locations, including what would be its first in Northern Virginia.
